The gift voucher will be emailed to the person paying in the week prior to the 25th December allowing you to print and give it to your friends well in time for Christmas.

The voucher is valid for entry to the 2019 Grim Reaper and the price is valid until the end of January 2019.  If the recipient used the voucher to enter the Grim Reaper after 1st February 2019, or they use it to enter a different distance or team type, they may need to pay extra.

The 2019 event will take place on Sunday the 21st July> race start time is 9.30am for all distances (10 miles , 40 miles , 70 miles and 100 miles and all have the same time limit of 26 hours for teams and solo runners

 The GrimReaper UltraMarathon is a non-stop race in teams or as solo runner/walkers that continue through the night (for those doing the longer distances).  The race Incorporates multiple 10 mile loops around the grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle Estate which is private owned land and gives exclusive access to entrants and no one else. Teams can be made up of between 2-4 persons and will share the distance out between the team members. Teams and solo runners/walkers can choose between 40 ,70 or 100 miles. All race distances start at the same time and all have the same time limit of 26 hours. Camping available and a great atmosphere guaranteed.
( 9.30am start for all solo and team categories- EVERYONE starts at the same time ). All event distances and categories have the same time limit of 25 hours 
All competitors will be expected to manage their own time, deciding how long to spend resting and refueling during the event.
 
 
How IT Works

The race is non-stop and will continue through the night. The route will incorporate multiple  10 mile loops (4,7 or10 ) through the beautiful grounds of the Grimsthorpe Estate. Runners will carry electronic timing chips that will record the lap times. The terrain is a mixture of a limestone trail , tarmac and field trails. At the end of each loop entrants will return to the main check point where they have access to their tent supplies. All entrants are required to bring a tent to put their supplies in that they will need for the duration of the event. The organisers won't be looking after your possesions in the main check point.  

 

All team categories are to use 1 chip timer that acts as a relay baton. This can be carried by one person in the team and that person can be joined by as few or as many team members as you want on the laps. The team members decide who runs which lap and how many people in the team can accompany the timing chip on the laps.

Runners to complete approx 4 , 7 or 10 laps of 10 mile loop. Each competitor will be given an electronic timing chip which they must place in the timing receiver at the far end of each loop and at the near end of each loop. When you have the correct number of verified laps you have completed the race. After completing each loop you will arrive at the organisers tent where you have access to your kit. The route is beautifully varied incorporating hard limestone trail, grass trail and tarmac trail with fantastic scenery and wildlife on show.

Grim Reaper competitors must be at least 18 years of age on the day of the race.

Even if you have never competed in an ultra marathon before, Your physical fitness will only get you so far and your mental toughness will determine whether or not you cross the finish line. This is an event that tests your endurance and stamina, not your navigational skills. Many Ultra races require a certain amount of navigational skill which frustrate some entrants.

These entrants will be relieved to know that no map skills will be required as the large looping route will be clearly marked. The organizers will provide water, tea coffee, a selection of food (but please don’t rely on this as it may not suit your dietary requirements) and toilet facilities. As the estate is privately owned spectators will only be allowed a limited amount of access, which will be decided nearer the time. If spectators want to volunteer to assist with the running of the event though they will be able to stay on the estate for the full duration of the event (please use contact page to request to volunteer)

Supporters are welcome to attend - Please bring your family and friends to pic nic in front of the castle and support you. Thevenue has a beautiful adventure play area for children , fantastic wide open spaces to pic nic in fron tof the castle.

SOLO ENTRIES

Recommended Minimum Requirements For Solo Entrants

Each distance is open to both elite and novice runners but we do recommend having a certain fitness level for each event.

40 miles 

The time limit of 26 hours makes the 40 mile distance very achievable for even the slowest of entrants.We would say though that a person entering this event should have a reasonable level of fitness as a minimum.

70 miles

The 70 mile distance is still very achievable in 26 hours but we would recommend a good level of fitness to complete.

100 miles 

The 100 mile event is very challenging and is ideally suited to runners who are extremely fit, healthy and experienced ultra runners.

 

General Information for Solo Runners

Once the race begins they must manage their own time in completing their set distance. The entrant decides when to rest , when to eat etc. Entrants supplies (food, cothing etc ) needs to be kept in a small tent at the main check point (runners will have access to their tent after each loop).  

Our Medical team will be on hand to assist with any injuries or illness during the race. For any entrants with on going medical conditions you should inform the medical team of this prior to the event starting.

Basic food will be available a tthe main check point for runners ( banana , crisps , nuts , energy type food ) but please dont rely on this if you require something more substantial. Hot and cold water also available as well as tea and coffee.

The number of team members across all distances is between 2 and 4 runners.

 
40 miles team event >>> minimum 2 people in team  > maximum 4 people in team
 
70 miles team event >>> minimum 2 people in team  > maximum 4 people in team
 
100 miles team event >>> minimum 2 people in team  > maximum 4 people in team
 
Team Entries
All team categories are to use 1 chip timer that acts as a relay baton. The team members decide who runs which lap and how many people in the team can accompany the timing chip on the laps.
 
Enter early to avoid disappointment as we expect next year to be our record entry year and we have a limit of 500 runners >>> 

 

General rules for team entries

Relay style - at least 1 person (can be more if you want) from each team must be completing each loop through the castle estate. Your team members have to decide who in your team runs each lap. All of you can run each lap or 1 person at a time in your group can run each lap. Its entirely up to you. It is the the timing chip that must complete the correct number of laps. 

You don't have to be a member of a running club to take part in the Team entry or Solo category event.
